Keith Allen, Jonny Labey, Gloria Onitiri and John Barr will star in Rehab The Musical, which premieres at The Playground Theatre this September.
Set in the late 90s, Rehab The Musical centres on a jaded pop star who finds himself facing the consequences of court action. Billed as a rock-bottom-to-redemption journey of the soul filled with memorable songs from Grant Black and Murray Lachlan Young.
The show is inspired by Black’s (the son of Oscar winner Don Black, who also co-produces) own experiences and his decision to enter into a rehabilitation clinic.
Keith Allen is cast in the role of Malcolm. Allen became a household name on Channel 4 in the 1980s in a number of films in ‘The Comic Strip Presents…’ series after first becoming one of the breakthrough acts of the Comedy Store. His extensive stage acting credits include starring in two Harold Pinter plays at the Almeida Theatre, playing Lambert in ‘Celebration’ and Mr Sands in ‘The Room’, ‘Pinter 3’ in the West End and he received rave reviews as Max in Pinter’s ‘The Homecoming’. On TV, he recently played serial killer and rapist John Cooper in the three-part ITV drama, ‘The Pembrokeshire Murders’.
Jonny Labey will play Kid Pop. He is best known for playing Paul Coker in ‘EastEnders’. In the West End he starred as Scott Hastings in Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Strictly Ballroom’.
Gloria Onitiri will play Lucy. She recently played The Godmother in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Cinderella. Gloria’s West End credits include The Bodyguard, Avenue Q and The Lion King.
John Barr plays Barry Bronze. He has appeared in many West End musicals, including playing Batboy The Musical, Les Miserables, Aspects of Love, Sweeney Todd, and Evita.
Rehab The Musical has music & lyrics by Grant Black and Murray Lachlan Young, a book by Elliot Davis, and is directed and choreographed by Gary Lloyd. The creative team includes Simon Lee (Musical Supervisor & Arranger), Andrew Exeter (Set & Lighting Designer), Chris Whybrow (Sound Designer) and Debbie O’Brien (Casting Director.
Rehab The Musical runs from 1 September 2022 until 17 September 2022 at The Playground Theatre, London.>
