X Factor star Sam Bailey has admitted that taking part in the show was her “last chance” for a musical career.

The 36-year-old singer who is four months pregnant with her third child has spoken out about her time on the show.

Speaking on Weekend on Sunday, Bailey said: “It was last chance saloon; you know what’s like for anybody that’s my age, all the young ones that are coming through are really young and they are being moulded.

“And as you get older people lose interest because you try to be young and hip but your clearly not.”

She added: “I sat on the sofa and it was the first time my kids have both sat down and watched the show and they were laughing their heads off and the advert to apply come up and I sat there with my tablet and applied and I said to my other half, ‘I’ve applied’.”

Sam admitted that she did not think she would get through the audition process.

She said: “I didn’t even think I would get an audition and we was away on holiday and I had an email coming through saying I got an audition.

“And I went along and sang my heart out and here I am now.”
