Why Obi-Wan Is the Best Jedi in the Galaxy

According to Jedi Night Kanan Jarrus, there were about 10,000 Jedi before the events of Order 66.

We don’t know much about most of these Jedi, but some of them played a huge part in the Star Wars story. Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most well-known of these, but is Obi-Wan the best Jedi of all time?

For a rundown of why Obi-Wan is the best Jedi, keep reading.

Who Is the Most Powerful Jedi of All Time?

This is an age-old debate, and it may never truly be settled. Throughout the Star Wars saga many Jedi pull off incredible feats that show their power, but comparing them is difficult.

Obi-Wan’s former master, Qui-Gon Jinn had an incredible connection with the living force, but his skills with a lightsaber were not enough to defeat Darth Maul (who Obi-Wan bested more than once).

Yoda serves as the Grand Master of the Jedi Order for years, and it’s clear his knowledge of the force and skills with a lightsaber are among the best. Mace Windu is also considered by many to be the most powerful Jedi ever, having been the only person to defeat Darth Sidious in a duel.

In Star Wars lightsabers are a Jedi’s weapon of choice, and their abilities with the force make them more powerful than most other beings. But do these alone make a Jedi great?

Why Obi-Wan Is the Best Jedi

One of the most important characteristics of a Jedi is their sensitivity to the force. Many Jedi Knights are tempted by the dark side at one point or another, but Obi-Wan is never swayed from the light. He even gave up the woman he loved in favor of his duties as a Jedi.

During the Clone Wars Obi-Wan was granted the rank of High Jedi General in the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic. He leads multiple missions throughout the Clone Wars achieving many victories.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s lightsaber skills aren’t necessarily as renowned as Yoda’s or Mace Windu’s, but his talents are undeniable. In The Phantom Menace, he defeats Darth Maul, making him the only Jedi to defeat a Sith in a thousand years. He’s also the one to defeat General Grevious and later bests Anakin after his fall to the dark side.

After the events of Order 66, the Jedi Order is reduced to almost nothing. The few remaining Jedi scatter across the galaxy and go into hiding. Obi-Wan does the same but continues to carry out a task that eventually saves the galaxy.

He takes Luke Skywalker to Tatooine to live with his family there and spends most of the rest of his life watching over Luke from a distance. When he’s old enough Obi-Wan begins to train him as a Jedi, which leads to the defeat of Darth Sidious and the downfall of The Empire. Without Obi-Wan’s guidance, none of that would have been possible.

The Future of Obi-Wan Kenobi

Disney Plus is soon releasing an Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney Plus. He’s the first Jedi to get a stand-alone series, as befits the best Jedi of all time. We’ll get to see more of his life on Tatooine during his time there, giving us more of what makes him great.
