10 Quotes From House Of The Dragon Character Bran That We Love

The Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, returned this month (August) and fans were excited for the first new live-action Game of Thrones content since the series concluded in 2019.

The new series, written by George R. R. Martin, has intrigued fans and taken them on a wild adventure both in the books and in the televised series. The series consists of nine noble families who consistently struggle for power and collectively fight an ancient evil.

Brandon Stark, nicknamed Bran, is one of the youngest members of the House of Stark. As the son of Eddard, he is destined for nobility, sacrifice, and plenty of life experience. On his journey for power and desperate attempts at survival, Bran went through some extensive personality changes that are very evident in his quoted interactions with other characters.

10 “You Wouldn’t Be Able To Help Us If I Let Them Murder You First.”

Bran Stark To Jamie Lannister Season 8 Episode 2

Bran Stark grew into a man who became seemingly fearless of anybody who opposed him. The boy who was once unsure and insecure turned into a man who didn’t care about people unless they are valuable to him in some way.

His obvious indifference regarding the lives of people around him is evident in this quote. Bran would do anything he sees necessary to maintain his influence, grow in power, and stay alive. Unless an individual was of significant value to him, the young Stark couldn’t care less about those he threatened.

9 “The Things We Do For Love.”

Bran Stark To Jaimie Lannister Season 8 Episode 2

Although Bran had his own little crush on Meera, this quote does not come from sincere sentiment. This quote is a side remark directed at Jaimie Lannister, who once said the same thing before pushing Bran out a window in his youth which was one of the worst things to happen to the Stark family.

From the moment Bran said this, Jaimie and fans knew that he was not one to forget those who transgressed him. Seeing as Jaimie robbed Bran of a future as a knight and the prospects of a family, it’s understandable that Bran has less than cordial feelings for him.

8 “Chaos Is A Ladder.”

Bran To Littlefinger Season 7 Episode 4

Throughout the series, Bran became one of the most suspicious characters due to his questionable journey to power. Ever since he became the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran adopted a new sense of purpose and willingness to embrace the chaos around him.

The quote is a nod to Baelish’s life philosophy: “sew the seeds of mischief, violence, and misunderstanding, then use the confusion to climb up the social/power ladder.” Fans think that Bran orchestrated the tragedies in the series with his powers, all in order to become king.

7 “I Didn’t Want Anyone To Die For Me.”

Bran To The Three-Eyed Raven Season 4 Episode 10

Bran had a similar upbringing to many honorable characters in Game of Thrones, yet with some significant differences. He was once a sweet and innocent child before he turned down a darker path in the pursuit of power. All of his honorable potential was dashed the moment he became the Three-Eyed Raven.

A small part of Bran’s mind and emotions remained after his transformation, but they were weak in comparison to the Raven’s knowledge and zeal. The boy who once valued other people’s lives was replaced by something that only viewed others as a way to grow in power.

6 “I Can See Things That Happened In The Past.”

Bran Stark To Samwell Tarly Season 7 Episode 7

As the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran is capable of seeing everything in the past, long before his years. He also has a power called green dreams, which are prophetic visions of the future that are fairly hard to decipher. They mainly make sense after they come true, and the characters have hindsight on their side.

Bran is sometimes seen as a villain because he rarely ever used his powers to benefit his kingdom or stop any bloodshed. As somebody who could see the future and had all of the knowledge of the past on his side, Bran could have easily used his powers to help cease the horrors that everybody suffered through. Bran remained selfish on his journey to be king.

5 “I’ll Never Yield, We Will Fight You And Throw You Out.”

Bran Stark To Theon Greyjoy Season 2 Episode 6

For somebody who couldn’t fight on his own, Bran had no hesitation in ordering others to battle. He was extremely manipulative in his journey for power. When Bran became the Three-Eyed Raven, he gained more wisdom and confidence than any of his family and peers could muster.

Bran’s manipulative ways truly shine through in this quote. He became one to never shy away from a fight, especially if he had something to gain through the matter. Bran can be seen as brave, but it is only through his manipulation and control over others that he remained in a royal standing for so long.

4 “He Wants To Erase This World, And I Am Its Memory.”

Bran Stark Talking About What The Night King Desires Season 8 Episode 2

In this quote, Bran is explaining the reason that the Night King seeks to destroy him. As the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran is a living record of mankind which is a coveted and sacred position. Bran’s existence is a threat to any enemy who desires full reign and chaos in the world.

Bran Stark is not highly ranked in bravery compared to other characters, as his character definitely decreased in morals and favoritism. His actions and words as the Three-Eyed Raven changed Bran into a more somber, manipulative, and power-hungry individual.

3 “I Don’t Really Want Anymore.”

Bran Stark To Tyrion Season 8 Episode 4

Bran Stark can be a fairly confusing character, especially in later seasons, as he talked mainly in riddles. He wasn’t ready to become the three-eyed raven, so his transformation changed his entire outlook and personality. His insecurities and flaws morphed into the raven’s selfishness and greed.

Bran is shown in this quote contemplating whether or not he wants to be a ruler. As the show continues, Bran’s desire to have power intensifies, and he’s willing to do anything to attain it. This quote is later contradicted by Bran’s actions in his efforts to have everything he ever wanted.

2 “If You Don’t Let Me Be, I’ll Have You All Killed.”

Bran Stark To Theon Greyjoy Season 2 Episode 7

This quote is yet another nod to Bran’s willingness to have anybody in his path killed. He had a fair amount of confidence in his noble standing and relied heavily on the help of others due to his own lack of mobility. He does not fear men and sees them as a means to an end when it comes to climbing in social standing.

It’s possible that Bran learned from Ned’s worst decisions and took them into account on his own journey for power. Bran had the knowledge and experience of hundreds of years before his time to make better decisions for not only survival but also individual prosperity.

1 “I Can Never Be The Lord Of Anything.”B

Bran Stark To Tyrion Season 8 Episode 4

Bran transformed from a boy full of insecurities into a pompous and arrogant king. The one thing on his side was the Three-Eyed Raven, as other characters and even fans turned on him in later seasons. This quote truly captures the intense character shift that Bran experienced in his most formative years as a young noble.

Ironically, Bran is not only king in his older years, but some fans think he may even be the embodiment of the Lord of Light, partially due to his status as the opposite of the Night King. Bran accomplished far more than his boyish dreams ever imagined, all thanks to the Three-Eyed Raven’s wisdom and the bloodshed of countless people
