Gwenno has shared a new James Dean Bradfield helmed remix of her single ‘NYCAW’
The synth-pop songwriter’s album ‘Tresor’ is a remarkable experience, perhaps the fullest realisation of her startling aesthetic. Matching Welsh and Cornish lyrics to dulcet pop arrangements, it’s an immediate yet continually challenging experience.
Nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, ‘Tresor’ faces tough competition from Little Simz, Self Esteem, Yard Act, and Wet Leg – the winner is announced on Thursday (September 8th).
Recent single ‘NYCAW’ is a real ear-worm, with Manic Street Preachers guitarist (and long-time Gwenno fan) James Dean Bradfield stepping in on remix duties.
A floaty, zero gravity remix, James Dean Bradfield adds flecks of acoustic guitar, angelic harmonies, and more. He comments:
“When I first heard the track I pictured a deserted village, so I tried to recreate the heat haze on the horizon as you’d drive into that village. Gwenno’s vocal gives you the chance to set whatever backdrop you want.”
It’s part of a neat cultural interchange between the two parties – Gwenno recently remixed Manics’ own track ‘The Orwellian’, and added vocals to a new version of the Welsh band’s early cut ‘Spectators Of Suicide’.
