There is a massive craze about cryptocurrencies all around the globe. Most people are looking at it as an investment option, and some are looking for different ways to get indulged with it. There is a wide range of companies that pay their employees in crypto. However, getting paid in crypto is a common thing among IT professionals. There are celebrities who love getting paid in crypto.
In this article, I am going to name 5 celebrities that get paid in crypto. Sounds interesting? So let’s quickly get into the topic:
1. 50 Cent
50 Cent is probably one of the first few celebrities who decided to get paid in crypto. Back in 2014
When he launched his fifth album, Animal Ambition, he decided to accept payment in Bitcoin. That time, in June 2014, he got about 700 Bitcoin when Bitcoin was worth about $662 only.
This means that at that time, he made about $460,000 in sales. However, at this moment, he currently holds about $8 Million worth of Bitcoin. Also, this made 50 Cent the first music artist to make a profit from the cryptocurrency boom.
On top of that 50 cent also mentions that he had forgotten that he has Bitcoins. Plus, he confirmed his new windfall on Instagram and Twitter saying, saying, “Not bad for a kid from the South Side, I’m so proud of me.” He later commented on his post: “Ima keep it real, I forgot I did that shit lol.”
Although, looking back in the past, accepting Bitcoin seems like a great idea. However, his decision to accept payments in crypto didn’t go well. One year later in 2015, he filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy after some of his other big investments failed.
2. Russell Okung
Russell Okung – A popular American football player got half of his $13 million salaries in Bitcoin. The former Carolina Panthers star agreed to receive half of his salary in crypto.
And back in the time when the Bitcoin price was continuing to move up week after week, it seemed like Okung made the right decision at the right moment. Also, if you compare his $13 million worth of Bitcoin at today’s bitcoins price, you can say that he is the highest paid NFL player at this moment.
According to his words, “Getting paid in Bitcoin is the first step of opting out of the corrupt, manipulated economy we all inhabit. When we are all paid in Bitcoin, no one can tell us what to do with the value we create.”
Furthermore, he is also believed to be the first player from any major US sports league to receive a salary in Bitcoin or other similar cryptocurrencies.
3. Mel B
Mel B, who is a former member of British pop group Spice Groups, decided to get paid in Bitcoin back in 2013. By doing so, she became the first British artist in history to accept payment in crypto.
Mel B is known for setting trends, and luckily she quickly realized the potential of cryptocurrencies. As a result, she partnered with the now defunct CloudHashing, which was a London based company that offered Bitcoin mining contracts to allow the sale of her 2014 Christmas single via Bitcoin.
At that time, she was excited to try out a new currency as per her words. Also, she mentioned that “I love how new technology makes our lives easier, and to me that’s exciting. Bitcoin unites my fans around the world using one currency.”
The song was entitled For Once In My Life, and it was directly sold through her website in exchange for Bitcoin payments. Also, after her move, there were other HipHop artists who too decided to accept payments in Bitcoin for their song or album releases.
4. Trevor Lawrence
In recent times, it is Trevor Lawrence who decided to get paid in crypto. Just a few days away from being the first pick for 2021’s NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence made his big move.
He decided to invest in a global cryptocurrency portfolio tracker and management app named Blockfolio. He reportedly signed a multi year deal. It was the first endorsement deal in which a significant amount of the signing bonus will be paid in cryptocurrency.
The amount is said to be directly deposited into the quarterback’s Blockfolio account. The bonus will consist of different crypto coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana.
However, the company didn’t disclose the number of the total cryptocurrencies that Trevor Lawrence got paid. Apart from this, he has also invested in the popular blockchain platform called Solana.

He was a part of an initiative called Project Coral reef where 35 renowned artists, including G-Eazy, Marriah Carey, Backstreet Boys, Dolly Parton and others, came together to provide their fans with discounted music and merchandise using the crypto coin Monero.
Monero is one of the popular cryptocurrencies, which is currently priced at 174.46 at the moment of writing this article. Thanks to the initiative, there are many stores that for the first time started accepting Monero, which was earlier used only for dark web purchases.
“As cryptocurrencies become more popular, it’s important that my fans have choices when it comes to how they buy my songs and merchandise. Given Monero is one of the safest and most secure cryptocurrencies, it’s one of the best options for my fans to purchase my new album.”
