Trends set to take centre stage this year include bright and bold interiors, natural materials and nature-inspired tones and luxury outdoors spaces to socialise with your loved ones.

Let’s reveals the top interior design trends predicted take over Britain in 2022

Hotel-worthy bathrooms

With bathrooms one of the most renovated rooms in the UK last year, it seems Britons were desperate to add a touch of luxury to their home to escape complexities of everyday life.

And with Brits needing to relax more than ever, it’s no surprise that a hotel-worthy look is expected to become popular with homeowners this year.

The phrase ‘hotel bathroom’ rose by 435% in searches on the design platform between January and September 2021, compared to the previous year.

Bathrooms are taking a step away from the classic, functional space with more homeowners opting for luxury, spa-like spaces – with searches for ‘sauna showers’ up by 1065% in 2021 compared to 2020.

Comfort and multifunctionality in the bedroom

As working from home becomes part of our everyday lives, bedrooms have become increasingly multifunctional, with space for a work area, exercise, and that all-important sense of relaxation.

In 2022 it’s predicted popular bedroom interiors will include comforting neutral tones, and textured wall coverings or panelling used to add a sense of luxury to sleep spaces.

When it comes to bedding, layered natural textures like linen and cotton in palettes of soft neutral tones are set to take centre stage, while searches for statement headboards rose 87% from last year.

Meanwhile, bespoke panelled units that house clever storage solutions will also be a staple of the most stylish bedrooms this year.

Luxury outdoor space

Gardens became a prime entertaining spot due to the pandemic, with outdoor spaces seen as a relaxing extension of interior living.

Searches on the platform for ‘garden designer’ have grown by more than eight times this year as homeowners turn their attention to their outdoor areas – with indoor-style tables, furniture and rugs set to become a staple this year.

In 2022, expect to see more outdoor kitchen and dining areas -phrases which shot up by 80% and 199% – with reports clients are more frequently requesting worktops, sinks and even fridges to kit out their outdoor kitchen areas.

Lavish kitchen worktops

When it comes to the kitchen, statement worktops are set to be among the biggest interior design trends this year.

Thicker worktops in bold colours and eye-catching patterns will take centre stage this year – with searches for chunkier quartz surging by 417% over last year.

Flowing waterfall designs, where the worktop wraps over the edge of the island to the floor will also become favoured this year, with searches surging by 250% in popularity.

Continuing the worktop material up onto the splashback as a slab is also popular with renovators to add a sense of luxury to the kitchen.
