The London hip-hop clubbing scene is like no other. There are venues that blast the best 90s hip-hop hits and others that are dedicated to contemporary hip-hop. There are exclusive Mayfair clubs that throw elegant parties, and others that host celebrities, like P. Diddy, Cardi B., Drake, and more.

Whether you’re a certified Londoner or in the city for a short visit, here are five exclusive hip-hop clubs you shouldn’t miss out on.

1- Tape London

Tape London is not just an exclusive Mayfair club, but it’s also an elegant contemporary hip-hop venue and a celebrity hotspot.

For starters, the club hosts many great artists, like Sean Combs (P. Diddy), Busta Rhymes, Cardi B, Offset, A$AP Rocky, and more. In addition, the club’s master of ceremonies, MC Brendan Carter, fills the atmosphere with energy every night, often going toe-to-toe against the Tape London celebrities.

Although the club is more contemporary hip-hop oriented, they never forget their roots. You’ll find the DJs blasting out some old-school hits every now and then. And, if you plan on ordering one of Tape’s famous bottleshows, you’ll get to see exactly why they have an item on their menu named after the one-and-only, The Notorious B.I.G.

If you plan to go, make sure you reach out to a club promoter to add you to the Tape London guestlist – or help you make a booking – since the club is on the exclusive side.

2- Tabu London

What makes Tabu unique is its Japanese-inspired theme. The club’s design draws upon the ruggedness of Tokyo’s back alleys and underground clubbing scene. When you combine that with the elegance of Mayfair and the energy and intensity of hip-hop music, you get Tabu London.

The venue is split into two floors. The top floor, Yuki Lounge, is a space dedicated to house music and mingling. Meanwhile, Tabu, the downstairs nightclub, is where hip-hop fanatics go to get wild.

With the perfect combination of elegant and rugged, Tabu London attracts its own fair share of celebrities, like Ty Dolla $ign.

3- Maddox

While Tape and Tabu go all out when it comes to their design, Maddox keeps it minimal without compromising on the elegance. More importantly, the management keeps the main room solely dedicated to the scene’s hottest hip-hop and RnB beats. Meanwhile, they keep all their house music in the private and invite-only Green Room.

What sets Maddox apart from the rest is the crowd. The Maddox crowd is quite mature and international. Meaning, you’ll have a fun time enjoying the music, as well as meeting new interesting people.

There isn’t a shortage of celebrities at Maddox either since it has seen traffic from international stars, like Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and Amy Winehouse.

4- Cuckoo Club

Cuckoo is one of those visually-appealing, Instagrammable clubs where every corner makes for a great photo. More than that, it’s the best venue if you’re equal parts a hip-hop lover and a house music fiend.

Like Tabu, Cuckoo is split into two floors with very different themes. The ground floor is known as Cosmos. It’s the place to be if you want to move your body to the pounding hip-hop beats. As for the design, as the name suggests, it’s outer space-themed. Between the velvet furniture, the rock-era interior, and the Milky Way-inspired colour scheme, it feels like you’re partying in the centre of the galaxy.

As for the underground floor, it’s known as The Garden. The floor’s design is inspired by Alice in Wonderland’s psychedelic and playful aesthetic: tables shaped like a Mad Hatter’s hat, crawling vines all around, colourful doors hung on walls, and more. All in all, it’s a whimsical, intimate space where house music reigns supreme.

5- Wyld Club

When it comes to hip-hop venues in Mayfair, Wyld is one unique eco-conscious club. When it comes to parties, they go all out: international artists and DJs, sexy photo booths, go-go dancers, and the list goes on. Even the bottleshow staff wears elegant animal masks to spice up the show.

Nevertheless, as much as they consume, Wyld makes sure to give back to the Earth through their ‘Buy a Bottle, Plant a Tree’ initiative and their policy against the use of single-use plastic materials. Both of which have earned the club a ‘Butterfly Mark’ from Positive Luxury.

There you have them, the five hip-hop London clubs you shouldn’t miss out on. Before you start getting ready though, make sure you contact a club promoter because these clubs rarely allow walk-ins. Once that’s done, it’s time to dress up and hit the streets. Don’t forget to follow the dress code.
