Wolverine 2 will follow X-Men: Apocalypse in theatres, according to director James Mangold however it won’t come until at least 2017!
X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled for US release in May, followed by the end-of-the-world-inspired instalment directed by Bryan Singer.
But Wolverine filmmaker James says comic book fans can expect another storyline focusing on Hugh Jackman’s mutant character not long after.
Responding to a fan asking about the production schedule on Twitter, James wrote: “@R__E__D_R__U__M @20centuryfox @ShuDonner We are figuring it all out. At the moment, I’m shooting The next #Wolverine after #XmenApocalypse.”
Fans may have to wait a while for the follow-up, however.
X-Men: Apocalypse is slated for release in May 2016, and report that it’s unlikely the Wolverine sequel will see cinemas before 2017.
Hugh Jackman, who has played the mutant seven times on the big screen, recently opened up about his work on the franchise that’s made him a household name.
“Every day I walk on the set with the claws and the hair, I thank my lucky stars. I don’t take any of it for granted,” he told IGN on the set of Days of Future Past. “To think that in a second version we’d have this cast and this director, and you guys don’t know the script, but I would say probably the best script of all of them, is pretty amazing.”
Hugh noted, however, he’s not holding out hopes he won’t be re-cast at some point in the storyline.
“Look, that’s inevitable, man. Anyone who thinks they’re indispensable in this business is fooling themselves. But I feel unbelievably blessed to have this part,” he said.
James meanwhile has a full plate until he gets to work on Wolverine.
He’s in negotiations to direct the big screen adaptation of The Deep Blue Goodbye, and has also signed on to direct Reese Witherspoon in Three Little Worlds.
