One Direction may have topped the list of top earners under 30 last year, it has been revealed that Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson actually take home more than their other bandmates.
Between them, the five-piece are believed to have pocketed nearly £60m last year but Liam and Louis’ talent for songwriting has seen them manage to squirrel away a little extra for a rainy day.
With songwriters generally earning nine per cent of the royalties on a track, the pair will have picked up a substantial sum on the back of the band’s massive global sales – and they intend to keep cashing in in the future.
The Sun quoted Liam as saying: “Louis and I have a little partnership going on. We’ve been pretty keen to start writing straight away.”
One Direction released their third album, Midnight Memories, at the end of last year and Wolverhampton-born Liam – nicknamed Daddy Directioneer by fans – admits he has already been working on the next one.
“I’ve been in the studio already, it’s been going really well,” he added.
“Learning how to write is the best way of ensuring your career has longevity and that you have control over it.”
And the Story of My Life singer is expecting big things ahead for album number four, telling the newspaper: “I really think the next album is going to be a game-changer for us. I’m excited.”
