One Direction land two Choice Awards

British Boyband One Direction took home two awards from the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards yesterday.

The British boy band were the biggest winning musical act of the night as they were named Favourite Music Group and their tune ‘Story of My Life’ won Favourite Song.

Other musical winners on the night were Justin Timberlake who was voted Favourite Male Singer and Selena Gomez who won Favourite Female Singer.

Gomez took to Twitter to let her fans know she appreciated the award. She wrote: “Yay!! Thank you KCAs, all the kiddies and my die hard franz [sic] for voting. Happy girl. Now I want sushi.…”

The Hunger Games, specifically the star of the films Jennifer Lawrence, also received a number of awards. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was voted Favourite Movie and Jennifer Lawrence received two awards for Favourite Movie Actress and Favourite Female Buttkicker. Robert Downey Jr. was voted Favourite Male Buttkicker and Adam Sandler won Favourite Movie Actor.

In the world of animation, Frozen was voted Favourite Animated Movie and Miranda Cosgrove received the award for Favourite Voice from an Animated Movie for her role as Margo in Despicable Me 2. Cosgrove was not able to attend the event but thanked fans via Twitter, writing “Thanks so much to all the fans that voted for me at the KCAs! I love you so much! Wish I could’ve been there tonight.” She also congratulated the creator of Sam & Cat which received the award for Favourite TV Show. The award for Favourite TV Actress also went to Ariana Grande who stars in Sam & Cat. Ross Lynch, best known for his role as Austin Moon on Austin & Ally, received the award for Favourite TV Actor.

SpongeBob Squarepants received two awards, having been voted Favourite Cartoon and also garnering Favourite Animated Animal Sidekick with Patrick Star. Other categories and their winners included Favourite Funny Star (Kevin Hart); Reality Show (Wipeout); Book (Diary of a Wimpy Kid series); Video Game (Just Dance 2014); App Game (Despicable Me: Minion Rush); and Most Enthusiastic Athlete (Dwight Howard).

The Los Angeles ceremony was held at USC Galen Center and presented by actor Mark Wahlberg. A host of musical stars were in attendance including Glee’s Lea Michele, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Pharrell Williams.

Whilst Pharrell Williams sported his trademark Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat in green before the show began he later changed into a Spongebob Sqaurepants onesie before being slimed – a characteristic element of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
