The Weeknd is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer whose real name is Abel Tesfaye.

The Weeknd was born on February 16, 1990 in Toronto, Canada. He is of Ethiopian descent and grew up in the city’s suburbs.

He first gained widespread recognition in 2010 for his mixtapes that he released on the social media platform, YouTube. His music is a mix of R&B, pop, and alternative, and he is known for his falsetto singing voice and his use of Auto-Tune.

Known for his sonic versatility and dark lyricism, his music explores escapism, romance, and melancholia, and is often inspired by personal experiences.
