The Bear is back for Season 2.
In “The Bear” season one, Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto moves to Chicago to take over his family’s sandwich shop, The Beef, after inheriting it from his brother, Michael, who died by suicide. While in New York, Carmy worked at the best restaurant in the city and was a rising star in the world of fine dining. But when he moves back to Chicago, his new, strong-willed staff couldn’t care less about his acclaim and aren’t thrilled about his grand ideas to change the restaurant. But as the series progresses, the staff come around, they start to work more efficiently together, the kitchen gets cleaner, and it becomes clear that — even through all the yelling and fighting — they have grown together and created a fantastic menu.
The penultimate episode of season one contains mostly screaming as the chefs try to get a handle on their new to-go ordering system. Carmy freaks out and lashes out at his sous chef, Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), and his baker, Marcus (Lionel Boyce), both of whom end up quitting. However, by the end of the finale, they return to The Beef. Carmy apologizes to them, but it’s clear there’s a lot to work through between the three of them.
Near the end of the season, Carmy and co. find a ton of money hidden in the tomato cans, left by Carmy’s brother, Michael. Earlier in the finale, it’s revealed that Michael and Carmy always envisioned opening a restaurant together called The Bear. At the end of the episode, Carmy posts a sign at the door saying The Beef is closed and The Bear is coming soon, leaving the door wide open for another season of the roller coaster that is Carmy’s kitchen.
Latest news
FX dropped a full-length trailer for Season 2 in May, giving us our first extended look at what the crew is up to as they work through the pains of opening a new restaurant. “I’m trying to start from a place of positivity,” Carmy claims. Can’t wait to find out how long that lasts!
The Bear Season 2 teaser
During the Oscars, FX released the first teaser for The Bear Season 2, which finds all our buddies from The Beef packing up shop as they get ready to move over to their new venture, presumably purchased with all that tomato can money. It’s short, sweet, and just enough to hold us over until we get some more news.
In the trailer for season two, viewers see that the restaurant needs a “face lift and gut,” and Carmy and Sydney have their work cut out for them. Carmy’s sister, Sugar (Abby Elliott), is also back in a larger role, helping her brother transform the restaurant.
The Bear Season 2 touches down on FX on Hulu this summer, and after months of short teases, we finally have our full-length trailer.
The Bear Season 2 cast
Molly Gordon will join the Season 2 cast in a recurring role, while Bob Odenkirk will appear in a guest role.
Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Edwin Lee Gibson, Matty Matheson, and Oliver Platt will all reprise their roles from Season 1. Here’s hoping we also get at least one more Jon Bernthal flashback.
The Bear spoilers
The critically acclaimed original series follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri) and Richard “Richie” Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they work to transform their grimy sandwich joint into a next-level spot.
As they strip the restaurant down to its bones, the crew undertakes transformational journeys of their own, each forced to confront the past and reckon with who they want to be in the future.
“Of course, it turns out the only thing harder than running a restaurant is opening a new one, and the team must juggle the insane bureaucracy of permits and contractors with the beauty and creative agony of menu planning,” FX teases.
“The transition brings a newfound focus on hospitality as well.”
“As the entire staff is forced to come together in new ways, pushing the boundaries of their abilities and relationships, they also learn what it means to be in service, both to diners and each other.”
The half-hour series also stars Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson, with Edwin Lee Gibson, Oliver Platt, and Molly Gordon in recurring roles.
FX’s The Bear was created by Christopher Storer (Ramy, Eighth Grade), who acts as executive producer alongside Joanna Calo (BoJack Horseman, Undone), Hiro Murai (Atlanta, Station Eleven) of Super Frog, Josh Senior, and Matty Matheson, with Tyson Bidner (Ramy) serving as producer.
The Bear Season 2 release date
On May 8, FX confirmed that The Bear Season 2 will premiere on June 22. A press release for the new season reads, “As they strip the restaurant down to its bones, the crew undertakes transformational journeys of their own, each forced to confront the past and reckon with who they want to be in the future.”
