The new cast members of Game of Thrones Season 4

Excitement is already building for Season Four of smash hit HBO fantasy series, Game Of Thrones. Scheduled to première in early 2014, the new series is hotly anticipated after the thrilling end to the last series with the now infamous ‘Red Wedding’ in the penultimate episode.

The director responsible for that particular hide-behind-the-sofa hour, Neil Marshall, is promising even more gore and violence in the new series and fans are already salivating over the snippets of information that have been released.

So ahead of Season Four of Game Of Thrones on HBO, we’ve run down the new cast members that have been announced so far. A mix of well-known faces and exciting up and coming talent, it gives a few clues to the new plot lines and which characters will be coming to the fore in this series.

Mark Gatiss as Tycho Nestoris
As part of the League Of Gentleman and a star of Doctor Who, Mark Gatiss is already a cult icon, and now he’s joining the Game Of Thrones cast as Tycho Nestoris of the Iron Bank Of Braavos. As a bank that always gets its due, it will be interesting to see how Gatiss plays such a potentially fearsome character.

A star of the hugely popular BBC series Luther, as well as HBO’s historical epic Rome, Indira Varma will play Ellaria Sand, lover of Prince Oberyn Martell and mum to the four youngest Sand Snakes. Said to be bisexual and a strong female character, it sounds like Indira’s role in the show will be anything but dull.

Pedro Pascal as Prince Oberyn Martell (The Red Viper)
The first newcomer announced was Pedro Pascal from legal drama The Good Wife. He plays the lusty, quick-witted Prince Oberyn, a warrior hell-bent on revenge for his sister’s murder.

Roger Ashton-Griffiths as Mace Tyrell (Pictured)

Mace Tyell might be the head of the newly-powerful Tyell family, but his mother, Lady Olenna (played by the inimitable Diana Rigg), regards him with indifference. Roger Ashton-Griffiths is a character actor who has played various roles but is possibly best known as Sir John Hutton in The Tudors.

Joel Fry as Hizdahr zo Loraq
Another British actor, Joel Fry, who has starred in Tamara Drew and Trollied, will take on the role of Hizdahr zo Loraq. Loraq is a nobleman of Meereen and the character is thought to be key to Season Four’s narrative.

Hafthor Julius Bjornsson as Gregor Clegane
Bjornsson is the third actor to be cast as Clegane, the loathed brother of Sandor Clegane or ‘The Hound’. The Icelandic actor and strongman will fit the part of ‘The Mountain’ well and will bring plenty of menace to this most feral of characters.

Joseph Gatt as Styr, Magnar of Thenn
A veteran of sci-fi and fantasy fare such as Star Trek Into The Darkness and Thor, Joseph Gatt brings his intriguing look to Wildling chief Styr, the Magnar or Lord of the Thenn people.

So there are the major new cast members to look out for in Season Four of Game Of Thrones and what a series it promises to be. We’ve also heard a rumour that Jonsi Birgisson, of otherworldly Icelandic band Sigur Ros, will make a cameo appearance during the series, so it seems that anything is possible in the world of Game Of Thrones.
