Today is the Harry Potter 20th anniversary reunion – catch up on the entire saga

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint

The Harry Potter films are currently available to stream on both HBO Max and Peacock right now! HBO Max will also soon stream the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts reunion on January 1, in which Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson revisit the series that made them stars.

Because of a deal done before either HBO Max or Peacock was a glimmer in the eyes of their respective corporate parents, the two streamers currently have joint custody of the original Harry Potter films. The result is that, every few months (or weeks), all eight movies exit one platform and fly over to the other.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is a long, twinkly, nostalgic love-fest, its main stars lining up to share memories of making the films and, naturally, to say how much they “love” each other (there’s a lot of that).
JK Rowling opted not to appear in Harry Potter’s Return To Hogwarts reunion special. MarkMeets can reveal that JK ROWLING reportedly made the personal decision not to appear in the Harry Potter reunion alongside the cast and crew.

Arguably its biggest star, however, does not appear in “person”. JK Rowling’s views on transgender issues and mocking of the phrase “people who menstruate” caused controversy last year and led to the Harry Potter franchise’s three leading lights, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, speaking out in solidarity with the trans community. There was speculation that Rowling was being “snubbed” by the producers.

The author preferred to only appear in archival footage.

Producers were said to have approached JK for an interview with the likes of Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, but the 56-year-old felt that an interview she had filmed back in 2019 would be enough.

And even though archival clips of the Fantastic Beasts creator are said to be featured in Return To Hogwarts, she’s only included “sparingly”, an insider revealed.

While viewers shouldn’t expect to see a significant portion of the special dedicated to JK, cast members such as Daniel, Bonnie Wright, and Robbie Coltrane spoke highly of the mother-of-three in one of their segments together.
“We just couldn’t find Harry, and it was getting kind of weird, and panicky.”

JK went on to share her delight upon meeting Daniel, who she knew from the beginning he’d make the perfect lead star.

She added: “It was very emotional seeing this kid sitting there and talking and I just thought, ‘Yep, that’s him, thank God, we found him’.”

The New Year’s Day special marks the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter flick.

This feature-length special will premiere on New Year’s Day at 8pm on Sky Max and in the US on HBO Max.
