First look at new musical La Bamba!

Siva Kaneswaran has given fans a special behind-the-scenes glimpse into the music of the exciting new show, La Bamba! Filmed at the National Theatre’s sound studios, the clip captures the cast as they laid down tracks in preparation for their debut performance at Curve Leicester next month.

La Bamba! is a dynamic musical that stars Pasha Kovalev, the champion of Strictly Come Dancing, along with Siva Kaneswaran from The Wanted and the talented rising star Inês Fernandez.

The inspiration behind the show comes from the life of Ritchie Valens, featuring an electrifying soundtrack of Latin pop anthems, including hits like Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie,” Marc Anthony’s “Vivir Mi Vida,” Becky G’s “Fulanito,” Camilla Cabello’s “Havana,” J-Lo’s “Let’s Get Loud,” and more. The juke-box musical, celebrating inclusivity and pride, will have a limited run at the Peacock Theatre in London from 22 August to 2 September.

Before its West End debut, La Bamba! will kick off its journey at Curve in Leicester on 1 August 2023, as part of an already announced UK tour.

The choreography for the show is in the capable hands of Strictly Come Dancing favorite and Italian Latin champion, Graziano Di Prima. The direction comes from the multi-award-winning American director, Ray Roderick. The music, skillfully crafted, is the work of the talented Alfonso Casado-Trigo, with associate choreography by Giada Lini.

Joining Pasha Kovalev, who was previously announced as part of the cast, is the boyband sensation, Siva Kaneswaran, who will be playing the role of Mateo. Siva is best known as one-fifth of the pop band The Wanted and has recently impressed audiences on ITV’s Dancing on Ice. Alongside him, the lead role of Sofia will be portrayed by the promising rising star, Inês Fernandez.

The full ensemble cast includes Bethan Mitchell, Stefani Ariza, Julia Ruiz Fernandez, Nicolle Matheu, Gabriella Rose-Marchant, Alex Sturman, Brendan Graham, Tristan Ghostkeeper, and Luke Jarvis.
