TOP 5 UPCOMING MARVEL MOVIES

Superhero movies are everywhere. Different franchises come up with different titles every year to please their audiences’ never-ending appetites. But no one does it better than Marvel Studios. Since the first “Iron Man” in 2008, Marvel Studios has been working every year to tell long interconnected stories over multiple movies. Characters cross over into different movies to keep the stories going. The Avengers hit the theaters in 2012, and since then, every movie that’s been produced has been a hit. The Marvel franchise continues to grow even after the Avengers Endgame blockbuster. So, is there anything coming down the pike? Here are the top 5 upcoming Marvel Movies to look out for.

  1. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – May 2022

Doctor Strange gave us lovable characters that have remained engraved in our memories. Marvel decided back in 2018 to keep the Doctor Strange project going. Even though a new movie with the same characters would’ve sufficed, a sequel of the original does it so much better. We previously knew of the upcoming movies as Doctor Strange 2. However, it now looks like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the project Marvel has been working on all along.

This is set to be the 4th release of Phase Four. Scott Derrickson will not be the director in this movie since the studio parted ways with him over creative differences. However, it was reported that Sam Raimi would take over the role of director in this movie. As for the role of the villain in this new Doctor Strange movie, no one knows. However, there are rumors of Benedict Cumberbatch (from Master of the Mystic Arts) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) making an appearance.

We also know that Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor will feature in the movie as Wong and Karl Mordo. Xochitl Gomez will feature as Miss America Chavez – a live-action debut.

  1. Thor: Love and Thunder – July 2022

This is going to be one for the records. For a long time, Marvel fans have not seen any solo movie extend beyond three features. If Captain America and Iron Man are anything to go by, Thor 4 seems to be the odd one out. In fact, Chris Hemsworth talked about not really enjoying the first two Thor movies. He, however, changed his mind after filming Thor: Ragnarok. Perhaps for that reason, we will now see the God of Thunder strike the fourth time with Thor: Love and Thunder.

But why Thor 4? Apparently, Taika Waititi, the director of Thor 3 (Thor: Ragnarok), signed a deal to do Thor 4 after the success of the previous movie. The story is set to pick up from the events of “Endgame.” Thor will be searching for a new purpose. Tessa Thompson will join him as Valkyrie (the King of Asgard), and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster (will be transformed into The Mighty Thor). Christian Bale will be the villain in the movie as Gorr the God Butcher. However, it’s unclear how he will fit in the plot.

  1. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – November 2022

Marvel fans knew for a long time that Black Panther 2 was in the works. However, that knowledge was put in huge doubt when Chadwick Boseman passed away in August 2020. The great actor was dealing with cancer for four years before he succumbed. He was able to keep it a secret as he featured in blockbusters like Black Panther, Avengers Infinity War, and Endgame. Chadwick passed away at the age of 43 before he could start working on Black Panther 2.

Even though Chadwick’s passing left a huge dent in the works, Ryan Coogler signed to helm this new movie. It is reported that he is also writing the script. It’s not clear what will happen in the movie, but it is set to feature favorite characters like Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, and Martin Freeman. They will take on their respective roles from the first Black Panther. The main villain in the movie is Tenoch Huerta – we don’t yet know his movie name.

  1. The Marvels – February 2023

This movie is thought to be the next one in the Captain Marvel series. The first movie hit the billion-dollar mark, and it was only a matter of time before the second movie was announced. However, just like Black Panther 2, Marvel seems to be taking their time with this one. Captain Marvel 2 will likely happen in early 2023. We should expect Brie Larson to appear again as Carol Danvers. However, it’s still not known how the story will play out. Early reports indicate a team-up story.

There has been some shuffling in the scheduling of movies. That means that The Marvels will be the first Marvel movie to hit cinemas in 2023. Nia DaCosta will take the lead of the movie, having directed the Candyman sequel. We don’t yet know how the story will flow, but we do know a few characters that will make an appearance. Teyonah Parris will be back as Monica Rambeau, and we hear that Iman Vellani will feature in a supporting role.

  1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – May 2023

It’s been 5 years since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released, and the next project in the series has taken what seems like an eternity to be released. It appears we’ll have to wait a little longer as Vol. 3 is getting prepared. The works took a dramatic halt when director James Gunn was taken off the works when his decade-old offensive tweets surfaced. James Gunn then shifted over to the DC Extended Universe, where he scripted and directed The Suicide Squad. However, Gunn is now back with Marvel and working on releasing the final movie in the Guardians of the Galaxy Trilogy.

This will be the final Guardians of the Galaxy movie, as Gunn has always said. The end story is set to feature a rich cast;

  • Chris Pratt will feature as Star-Lord
  • Zoe Saldana as Gamora
  • Dave Bautista as Drax
  • Bradley Cooper as Rocket
  • Vin Diesel as Groot,
  • Karen Gillan as Nebula, and
  • Pom Klementieff as Mantis

We don’t know how the story will conclude, but we can’t wait. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit cinemas in May 2023. That’s 6 years of waiting!

Conclusion

That is just a brief look at what is coming from the top Superhero movie franchise. One more movie is scheduled to appear in 2023: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It will hit theaters in July 2023 and feature top directors and producers. There will also be a cast of great characters making an appearance.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought us hit after hit. There is always something cooking in their busy kitchen, and the fans can’t get enough of it!
