“Sometimes I think about all the way in which this short film and this moment almost never happened,” she said. “The fans willed this to happen.”

Guetta and Rexha kicked off the night with “I’m Good (Blue),” while Muse (best rock winners) gave an explosive performance of “Will of the People.” Later, Ukrainian rap group Kalush Orchestra delivered a powerful display of support for their country. Other performers included Ava Max, Stormzy, OneRepublic, Gayle, Lewis Capaldi, Tate McRae, in addition to PINALL, Äyanna and Nasty C. Gorillaz (best alternative winners) and Thundercat also gave a performance of “Cracker Island.”

With simple black heels, hair swept into an intricate bun leaving her heavyset fringe the focal point, and a brush of silver eyeliner, Swift brought the wow factor. She was joined on the red carpet by Maya Jama, who opted for a black dress with transparent stripes and cape, Bebe Rexha in a structured blue velvet showstopper by Bad Binch Tongtong, and Lauren Spencer-Smith, who chose top-to-toe Barbiecore. The evening was certainly one full of high energy and musical celebrations. Stormzy, Ava Max, and Lewis Capaldi all performed, but the focus was always on the winners. While Harry Styles led the nominations with seven nods, he took home two and wasn’t the biggest winner of the evening. It was Swift’s night as she bagged four out of the six she was nominated for, and she is certainly in the running for our best-dressed guest, too.

This year’s Generation Change award went to three Ukrainian women – Lina Deshvar, Anna Kutova and Anfisa Yakovina – who are activists for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Their work includes providing shelter for refugees, evacuating and caring for families with children, adolescents and young people with disabilities and offering art and group therapy for women and families who have been separated from their loved ones.
