What Makes a Strong Pitch?
Tell us the story, rather than simply naming a subject. Explain your angle, why it matters and what you can bring that readers will not find in a routine summary.
A useful pitch might introduce an interview you can secure, identify an overlooked development or explain how your professional experience helps you cover a subject accurately. You do not need a long introduction or a completed article to propose an idea.
- A proposed headline or clear working title.
- A short outline of the story and its intended angle.
- Why it is relevant to MarkMeets readers now.
- The reporting, sources, expertise or access you can contribute.
- Your expected word count and delivery date.
- Links to relevant writing samples, where available.
- Any commercial interest, client relationship or conflict of interest.
Article Submission Guidelines
Read our contributor and editorial guidelines before submitting. Unless a different brief has been agreed, articles should meet the following requirements.
- At least 500 words, with sufficient detail to cover the subject properly. Agree unusually long features with the editor first.
- Original and unpublished, written by you and not copied, spun or republished from another source.
- Human-written content that reflects genuine reporting, knowledge or analysis. We do not accept AI-generated articles.
- Clear English, with accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation. Use British English unless the brief specifies otherwise.
- A relevant angle, offering information, reporting or a perspective that adds value for readers.
- Supported factual claims, with reliable sources and clear attribution for quotations, figures and research.
- Readable structure, using descriptive headings, focused paragraphs and lists where they help.
- A clear headline that accurately represents the article without misleading claims or keyword stuffing.
- Appropriate permissions for interviews, photographs and other material supplied with the article.
- Full disclosure of commercial relationships, gifts, hosted visits or other circumstances relevant to the coverage.
Check names, dates, job titles, quotations and links before submitting. Distinguish verified facts from opinion, and tell the editor where a claim remains uncertain.
Images, Video and Supporting Material
Relevant photographs, original graphics and video can strengthen a feature. Supply material separately where possible, with a suggested caption, the source, the required credit and evidence of permission or the applicable licence.
Do not assume an image is free to use because it appears online or on social media. Where Creative Commons material is proposed, provide the specific licence and comply with its conditions. Avoid decorative images that add little to the article.
Links and Contributor Credits
Editorial contributions should serve readers rather than promote a business or obtain backlinks. Include relevant research sources and an appropriate link to existing MarkMeets coverage where it helps explain the subject.
We do not accept undisclosed client links, contributor affiliate links, tracking links or irrelevant promotional destinations. Link inclusion and presentation remain subject to editorial approval.
Our standard guest contribution includes a name credit. An author biography, company promotion or external author link is not included unless separately agreed.
Editorial Contributions and Commercial Enquiries
If you are writing on behalf of a company, promoting a product or seeking a placement for a paying client, disclose this when you contact us. Such enquiries are assessed separately from independent editorial pitches.
For commercial content requirements, visit our blog services page or explore ways to work with MarkMeets. Commercial content remains subject to approval and appropriate disclosure.
If you are seeking a paid writing commission, state this in your pitch and agree the fee, scope and payment terms in writing before beginning work. Do not assume that an unsolicited submission creates a paid commission.
What Happens After You Submit?
Our editorial team considers the idea, its relevance, the quality of the proposed work and the coverage already planned. We may ask for more information, suggest a different angle or request revisions.
Acceptance of a pitch does not mean every subsequent draft will be published unchanged. We may edit headlines, structure, wording and supporting material to meet our editorial standards, and we may decline work that does not meet the agreed brief.
We receive a substantial volume of enquiries and cannot promise an individual response to every proposal. Please do not treat silence as approval or assume publication is scheduled until the team confirms it.
