London Film Premieres: Venues, Fan Access and What to Expect

For event dates, return to our London film premiere calendar. This section explains the different ways to experience a premiere and the questions to ask before attending.

Where Are London Film Premieres Held?

Leicester Square is one of London’s best-known premiere locations. Its cinema entrances, photography positions and public spaces are adapted for events of different sizes, from individual screenings to major international launches.

Venues featured across our London coverage include:

  • ODEON Luxe Leicester Square.
  • Vue West End.
  • Other cinema and screening spaces around Leicester Square.
  • BFI IMAX at Waterloo.
  • Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.
  • The Royal Albert Hall.
  • Ham Yard Hotel.
  • The May Fair Hotel and other Mayfair venues.
  • The O2 and other larger event locations.

Check the full venue name and address in the individual listing. A film festival can use several venues, and a later screening may take place somewhere different from the premiere.

What Happens at a Film Premiere?

The public arrivals are only one part of the event. Before the first guest appears, organisers prepare the venue, branding, security routes, media positions and any fan viewing areas.

Accredited journalists, photographers and television crews check in and take their assigned places. Guests then arrive according to the event schedule, with cast and filmmakers usually completing photography and interviews before entering the cinema.

Some performers stop to meet fans along the way. Others have limited time and move directly to their media commitments.

Inside, the screening may include an introduction from the filmmakers or cast. Refreshments, gifts, receptions and afterparties depend on the occasion and should not be assumed unless included in the invitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a ticket to stand behind the barriers?

Not necessarily, but you may need a wristband, ballot place or registration. Free viewing does not mean unrestricted admission. Check the organiser’s instructions and capacity arrangements.

Where do I collect a wristband?

Use the collection point announced for your event. It may not be the cinema entrance, and distribution can take place earlier than the red-carpet arrivals. Some events use a different process entirely.

Will every cast member attend?

No. Cast membership is not confirmation of premiere attendance. Look for specifically announced guests and remember that their plans can still change.

Can I get an autograph or photograph?

You may ask politely if a guest approaches the permitted fan area. Have your item or camera ready, keep requests brief and respect the answer if they cannot stop.

Do not push, lean across other people or block their view. A place near the barrier does not guarantee an interaction.

How early should I arrive?

Follow the published collection, admission or return time. Arriving early does not override a ballot or guarantee entry. We do not recommend camping overnight.

What should I bring?

Check the bag rules, then plan for the weather and the length of your visit. Comfortable shoes, water, a charged phone and any required identification are useful. Keep autograph items manageable and avoid obstructing others with large signs or equipment.

Is accessible viewing available?

Contact the organiser before attending. Some events provide dedicated accessible viewing or a separate application process. Ask about companion places, step-free routes, entry points and any return time you need to follow.

Can I go into the press pen?

Press areas require accreditation. A camera, social account or fan wristband does not grant access. If you are covering the event professionally, apply through the appointed press team and wait for confirmation.

Will the stars stop when leaving?

Departure times and routes vary. Guests may leave through areas that are not open to the public, so do not rely on meeting someone after the screening.

Why is the film I want not listed?

We may not have information available to publish. Not every release has a London premiere, and some announcements arrive close to the event. An absent listing does not establish whether an event is being planned privately.

Does “confirmed” mean the event cannot change?

No. It reflects the information available when the listing was checked. Dates, venues, access arrangements and guests may still change, or an event may be cancelled.

Where can I find previous events?

Visit our past London film premiere archive. Historical timings and access rules should not be applied automatically to a new event.

MarkMeets: Covering London Film Premieres Since 2002

Film premieres are part of the foundation of MarkMeets. Our work in this area combines event information with reporting, interviews, photography, video and practical experience of the red-carpet environment.

Through MarkMeets Media, MarkMeets PR and UKFilmPremieres, our team has worked across publicity, event support and client access arrangements. We maintain contacts with distributors, agents, publicists, promotion teams and media professionals.

Those relationships help us obtain and clarify information. The organiser remains responsible for the event, its guest list, accreditation and public access.

Our coverage includes UK, European and world premieres, royal film events, charity screenings, filmmaker Q&As and festival occasions. We also report live from selected events and share photographs and interviews through our own channels and other outlets.

MarkMeets is an independent, not-for-profit British publication. We appreciate the readers who return to this calendar, share our updates and tell us about their experiences meeting the people whose work they enjoy.
